What to expect when you renovate
Renovating your home is exciting — but let's be honest, it can also be a bit stressful. Your routines get disrupted, your house looks like a building site, and for a while, nothing feels quite normal. We get it. Here's what to expect, and how we make it as painless as possible.
Your home will be disrupted — and that's okay
No renovation happens without some upheaval. There'll be noise, dust, tradespeople coming and going, and rooms that are temporarily out of bounds. We won't pretend otherwise. What we will do is plan the work carefully so disruption is kept to the shortest possible window, and we'll always let you know what's happening and when.
A good renovation company doesn't just manage materials and timelines — it manages your experience of living through the process. That's something we take seriously at Total Home Solutions.
Bathroom out of action? We've got you covered
One of the biggest concerns homeowners have is: what do we do when our only bathroom is being renovated? It's a fair question — and one we plan for from day one.
Portaloo on-site
For short-term work, we can arrange a quality portaloo right on your property — clean, convenient, and discreet.
Mobile bathroom unit
For longer projects, a self-contained mobile unit with shower and toilet can be brought in — surprisingly comfortable.
Scheduled access
We can often stage the work so part of the bathroom remains usable. We'll talk through the best plan for your situation.
Kitchen reno? Here's how to manage
Losing your kitchen — even temporarily — is genuinely inconvenient. A bit of preparation makes a big difference:
Set up a temporary kitchen in another room with a microwave, kettle, and mini fridge. A portable induction cooktop is a great investment for the duration. Stock up on easy meals, and give yourself permission to get a few takeaways — it's a short season. We'll always give you clear timelines so you can plan shopping and meals around the work schedule.
Our promise: We won't leave your kitchen half-demolished over a long weekend. Major demolition and fit-out stages are planned so you're never left in limbo longer than necessary.
Keeping your home clean, warm, and liveable
Dust and cold are the two things people dread most during a renovation — especially in winter. Here's how we deal with both.
Dust containment
We use dust barriers and sheeting to isolate work areas. HEPA vacuums and daily site clean-ups keep the rest of your home liveable.
Winter warmth
Temporary boarding and plastic sheeting seal off open areas so heat stays in your home — even when walls or windows are being worked on.
Site security
Your home is secured at the end of every working day. No open doors, no exposed entry points left overnight.
